For IMMEDIATE RELEASE

29 Sept 2023 (El Paso, Texas NATIONAL)

National NonProfit Formed Following Uvalde School Shooting Responds To Growing Student Safety Concerns At Canutillo High School

_______

After increased student safety concerns; heightened this month, following online shooting threats to students and much campus community unease due to gang activity on and off campus, leading most recently to multiple arrests of students of Canutillo HS in El Paso; The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, formed in response to the May 2022 Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde, Texas; announced in a release late Thursday evening, and following several requests from school community members, that it will begin immediate recruitment for community volunteers to join its STOP NOW Volunteer School Patrols, planned for the school community.

KFOX STORY UPDATE:

The nonprofit noted in the release, that the school patrols are part of a nationwide grassroots effort by the foundation to prevent violence from coming onto & disrupting school campuses and endangering student lives.

Patrols are currently planned at several historically troubled school communities nationwide, or those effected by violence; and slated for throughout the academic year; including the Covenant School in Nashville, TN & Choctaw High School in Oklahoma & Denver East HS in Denver, CO - All sites of recent student related shootings and safety threats.

Modeled after the GUARDIAN ANGELS community policing unit in NYC In the 1980s, STOPNOW teams; such as planned, patrol school perimeters; serving as an additional level of positive student and community engagement, while also as additional deterrents to potential dangers to students.

Team members patrol in groups, are not armed, receive criminal background and drug clearance & are trained in situational awareness, CPR and basic intervention techniques...

Unless a part of the foundation's on campus program, teams do not enter school grounds & do not seek/require school or district collaboration or permissions.

 Stop Now Patrols:

Potential volunteers are encouraged to contact the foundation to sign up for team patrols.
