Pennsylvania Mass Shooting Incident Involving Officers & School Lockdowns Prompts National Violence Prevention Group Response

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Uvalde Foundation For Kids, National Violence Prevention & Student Advocacy Group, Responds to North Codorus Township Incident, Launches School Community Crisis Support and Fundraiser for Injured Officers

YORK COUNTY, PA – In response to the recent police incident in North Codorus Township, Pennsylvania, where multiple officers were involved and at least two people are in serious condition at York Hospital, with one officer being airlifted to an area hospital; the Uvalde Foundation For Kids today announced out of Dallas, Texas, a dual-pronged support initiative for the affected community. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has also reportedly rushed to the scene.

According to the Spring Grove Area School District, all of its schools were placed on a shelter-in-place order as a precautionary measure due to the police incident. The district confirmed that the incident was not school-related and did not involve students or school property.

"Our hearts go out to the entire community in York County, especially those who were at the school and the brave officers who were injured in what we can confirm is a separate incident." said Daniel Chapin, Founder of The Uvalde Foundation For Kids. "We understand the trauma and fear that a school lockdown instills. The sound of sirens, the uncertainty, and the disruption of a safe space can have a lasting psychological effect on children and adults alike."

To address the immediate mental health needs of the Spring Grove School District community, the Foundation is launching free crisis support telecounseling services.

The foundation's telecounseling services are being offered in direct response to the psychological impact the lockdown itself may have had on students and staff.

This program will connect students and staff with a network of peer and professional counselors who are trained in trauma-informed care and can provide a safe space for individuals to process their experiences. The services will be available 24/7, providing a vital resource as the school community navigates the aftermath of the event.

Recognizing the immense sacrifice of law enforcement, The Uvalde Foundation For Kids is also activating its "Back the Blue" program to support the officers injured in the incident. Through this initiative, the Foundation is launching a dedicated fundraising campaign to provide financial assistance to the injured officers and their families.

All proceeds from this campaign will be used to cover medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, and other needs that may arise as they recover from their injuries.

"Our law enforcement officers are the first line of defense in these critical situations, and they often bear the physical and emotional scars of protecting our communities," Chapin added. "The 'Back the Blue' program is our way of showing them that their courage and sacrifice are deeply valued. It is a testament to our belief that the safety of our communities is a shared responsibility, and that includes standing with those who risk their lives to uphold it."

Foundation officials noted they are reaching out to law enforcement officials to determine the extent of officers injuries and to extend added support.

The Uvalde Foundation For Kids urges the public to support the new fundraising campaign and to share information about the crisis telecounseling services with anyone in the affected school community.
