Gun Violence Prevention Group, Formed After Mass Shooting In Texas, To Award Heroism Award To Injured Survivor Lydia Kaiser, Following Annunciation Church & School Shooting
In a Sunday evening release, out of Dallas, Texas, The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a national nonprofit formed in response to the May 2022 mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas; released that it will award its National Student Heroism Award to twelve-year-old Lydia Kaiser, recently released from Children's Minnesota after being shot at Annunciation School and Church on Aug. 27.
Lydia has had surgery to remove a piece of her skull to allow her brain to swell and heal and is being recognized by the charity group for shielding another student during the shooting tragedy.
Foundation officials noted that the heroism award also comes with a monetary scholarship for Lydia as part of the recognition.
An award presentation ceremony to honor Lydia, will be planned in the near future.
Founder of the nonprofit student advocacy and violence prevention group; Daniel Chapin, noted in the release,
"The actions of this young lady were nothing short of heroic. There is no question that her selflessness and dedication to her friends and peers, manifested that day into her brave action to risk her own life to protect another student from gunfire.. Lydia faced the danger in a display of heroism that will not be forgotten."
The foundation's release added that Lydia also joins other individuals nationally to receive recognitions through its award program, including the Nashville Police Department, following their response to the Covenant School shooting and officers with the Pittsburgh Police Department & most recently Walker County, Alabama SRO, Jay Miller
