Uvalde Foundation For Kids Launches National Youth-to-Youth Exchange Initiative After Crisis
Kerr County, Texas/National – July 8, 2025
Texas – The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a national 501(c)(3) charity, announced today the launch of a nationwide youth-to-youth peer driven, crisis support, exchange program, "Letters Of Hope " The initiative, born from the devastation of the Kerr County, Texas floods and other tragedies impacting children across the nation, connects young people who have experienced disasters with peers who have navigated similar traumatic events.
The foundation, itself born out of tragedy, following the Robb Elementary School shooting in Uvalde Texas, noted in Tuesday's release from Dallas, Texas, that the, "Letters Of Hope," initiative was inspired by the lives lost at Camp Mystic in Central Texas due to severe flooding & the resilience of the affected communities; alongside other national tragedies affecting children.
The program offers a vital, unique platform for healing. It provides a "pen pal" style exchange and special community workshops nationwide, allowing youth to share their experiences with trauma in a supportive environment.
Overseen by foundation program director, Jess Boehner, out of San Jose, California, the program will partner with schools, community centers, crisis response agencies, and social services. This collaborative approach aims to create a diverse, creative, and youth-driven support system.
Participants will use various creative outlets, including drawings, letters, short stories, videos, pictures, and collages, to illustrate their experiences. In a safe setting, whether through pen pal exchanges or community workshops, children from California to Texas to New Jersey will connect and find support with peers at different stages of the grieving process, guiding each other toward healing.
Foundation mental health professionals and volunteers will oversee the initiative, working in close partnership with families and community organizations.
Campaign Objectives:
* Foster healing through hope, connection, and vulnerability.
* Provide prompts that help children reflect and process in constructive ways.
* Maintain a safe and structured environment with the support of adult facilitators.
For more information on the project or to register a child for free, please contact the foundation. Each child/student group will then be connected to a team leader, who will assign either a peer pen pal support partner and/or a local, community workshops to attend:
