31 August 2025 (National)(Minneapolis)

"We are honored to include Creekside Montessori School in Minneapolis on our volunteer patrol roster. Their outreach to us further exemplifies both the dedication of area school communities to ensure the safety and morale of their students and youth, to prevent another such tragedy; but also the unique power of patrol program itself.

(James Earle, Uvalde Foundation For Kids)

----------

Following the shooting in Minneapolis, Mn this week at Annunciation Church and School, which took two young lives, the Uvalde Foundation For Kids announced that it was launching its STOPNOW national, volunteer school and community safety patrols program throughout Minneapolis, including the Annunciation Church & School neighborhood.

In a release Sunday morning, foundation officials noted they have begun to receive requests from area schools to include on their patrols, including Creekside Montessori School, located just a few blocks from the tragic incident at Annunciation Church.

The foundation noted in the update, Sunday, that despite Minneapolis Police department rejection of the foundation's collaboration proposal; the national nonprofit, formed following the Uvalde, Texas mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in May 2022; will still continue plans to have members of the specially trained citizen patrol teams for several Minneapolis area school communities and the Annunciation Church neighborhoods.

The specialized school community patrols are specifically designed to increase student safety throughout neighborhoods and provide additional community support for students, faculty, parents & school.

The currently planned uniformed STOPNOW volunteer safety patrols for the school communities listed, are slated to include over two dozen team members, trained in crisis intervention and situational awareness, for ongoing rotation with more being recruited & trained from the school and community.

Patrol members are trained to recognize and deescalate potential crisis situations, alert law enforcement of potential threats/incidents and are part of a nationwide effort to engage community members in reducing student related violence and increase school community morale.

Foundation STOPNOW Patrols, modeled after the "Guardian Angels," anti crime unit in NYC in the 1980's, patrol school perimeters to minimize & prevent safety incidents from reaching school campuses; while also providing extra encouragement and support for students and neighborhoods during traumatic times.

The foundation says it is beginning immediate community recruitment for the ongoing patrol programming. An informational and training session for volunteers is expected in the coming weeks.
