The Uvalde Foundation For Kids Launches Brian Wilson Memorial Scholarship, Announces First Recipient
Donation Goal: $10,000.00
The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to student advocacy and violence prevention (ID 88-3268749), is proud to announce the launch of its new national student scholarship program. Formed in response to the tragic 2022 mass shooting in Uvalde, Texas, the Foundation is committed to fostering positive change and supporting the future of our nation's youth.
The first recipient of this prestigious new award, the "Brian Wilson Memorial Scholarship," has been nominated: True Schrider, an honors graduate from Patrick Henry High School in Roanoke, Virginia.
This scholarship, distributed annually each fall, honors the enduring legacy of the late Brian Wilson, co-founder of The Beach Boys. Beyond his profound influence on music and surf culture, Wilson was a dedicated philanthropist, notably supporting organizations like The Boys & Girls Club and championing national mental health awareness campaigns. His commitment to youth welfare and mental well-being aligns perfectly with the Foundation's mission.
True Schrider's nomination is a testament to her exceptional achievements. Recently accepted to Bates College in Maine, where she plans to focus on Theatre and Psychology, True was selected in late June 2025 from a competitive pool of 118 national nominations for the Fall 2025 scholarship. She has also been appointed as the Foundation's Student Ambassador for Virginia.
The Brian Wilson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students nationwide who demonstrate excellence in performing arts and creative abilities, coupled with a strong record of community service. Special consideration is given to those actively involved in school violence prevention, bullying prevention, and the overall advancement of student and youth welfare in their communities.
True Schrider is the sole Virginia teen selected for this honor, with nominations continuing to be accepted nationwide through Summer 2025. Daniel Chapin, founder of The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, expressed his admiration, stating, "You cannot say enough about this young lady, who is the epitome of resiliency, bravery, and focus which young people everywhere would do well to follow. We are honored to announce such a nomination as this. Brian (Beach Boys Founder) would be proud."
