LANSING, Mich. - On the 2 year anniversary of the Oxford High School shooting; Oxford Community Schools district is holding a moment of silence Thursday afternoon, at 12:51 p.m. (EST) and urges Michiganders to light a candle or luminary in remembrance this evening at 7 p.m. The Uvalde Foundation For Kids, a Texas based nonprofit formed following the Uvalde, Texas school shooting; will remember the event & honor the victims lost with a moment of silence and a "black out," of all it's social media sites at 6pm CST from It's Dallas, Texas headquarters.
Oxford colors, images & memorials will also illuminate their Dallas & Los Angeles offices; as a further remembrance.
The founder of the national nonprofit, Daniel Chapin; formed to prevent school violence following the Robb Elementary School shooting released a statement expressing solidarity with the Oxford community & Michigan residents stating:
“The Uvalde Foundation For Kids stands in solidarity with the resilient community of Oxford. Today we remember the tragic events of that fateful day, which claimed the lives of Justin, a kind young man known for his kindness & smile that could light up every room. We remember Madisyn; a dedicated sister and friend. We remember Tate; a leader both on and off the football field. And we remember Hana, best known for her silly sense of humor and love of sports; especially volleyball.
Yet, our memories and our ongoing grief can be met with hope that the events which shattered a community and so very many lives also serves as a motivation to do all we can as a local and national community to end the violence which is taking far too many student lives! Memorials, Prayer & Thoughts have their place but must be met with Action!!
The Uvalde Foundation For Kids honors the bravery of the Oxford families & community; whom, since that day, have served as a beacon of resilience and bravery. Our foundation will continue to remember Oxford, who now remains forever part of an unfortunate fraternity of those who have lost loved ones due to gun violence. We will continue to remain committed to supporting the community in our hearts & in our actions."
